Home of Pioneer James Kirkham. Built Circa 1885. James Kirkham was born Aug 28, 1849 in London England to George Wm. and Mary Ann Astington Kirkham. Three more sons, George, Hyrum and Joseph would complete the family by 1856. The parents converted to the L.D.S. faith in 1854 while living in London, England. In 1859 the Kirkham family left their native land for Utah. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley the same year. They moved to Lehi in the Spring of 1860. , , As a skilled musician James was a member of the "Kirkham Brothers' Quadrille Band". He was a member of the Salt Lake Theater Orchestra and the Vaudeville Company and Chiors. , , James occupations included working at the paper mill, a cook, a railroad laborer, teacher, postmaster and chief of police. He and his sons owned a mercantile business. During Utahs Black Hawk War he was an officer in the militia. He also lectured on his experiences as a worid traveler. , , James married Martha Mercer in 1871. They would have eight children. He entered the principle of plural marriage when he married Emma Wooten in 1875. They also had eight children. After the deaths of his wives, James married Miriam Chase Adams Eckles in 1926. James served two missions to England. His other ecclesiastical callings included tithing clerk and stake patriarch. James died in Salt Lake City on Aug. 9, 1929.
