Home of Pioneer George Kirkham, Built Circa 1902. . , March 11, 1852 George Wm. and Mary Ann Astington Kirkham welcomed into their home a second son, George. Their first was James (1849). In 1866 twins Joseph and Hyrum were born. The parents converted to the L.D.S. faith in 1854 while living in London, England. In 1859 the Kirkham family left their native land for Utah. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley the same year. The following spring of 1860 they moved to Lehi. , , Growing up in Lehi the Kirkham brothers became skilled musicians. The "Kirkham Brothers' Quadrille Band" performed throughout Utah. Though George was talented in music and art, his mother encouraged him to become an architect and builder. Many homes in Lehi were of his creation. George did finish carpentry in the St. George and Salt Lake Temples. , , George married Mary Russon in 1872. In 1875 he married his wife's sister, Sara. From these unions came twenty-two children. In 1877 George was convicted under federal anti-polygamy laws and served six months in the territorial prison. George viewed his time in prison as a badge of faith and honor. George served a mission to England for his church in 1888. Returning home he became a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. In 1893 he accompanied the choir to the World's Fair Exposition in Chicago. Living a life of faith to his church, family and community, George died March 6, 1923.
