Broom-maker's House
The Mellraith family were Scottish emigrants who, in 1846, settled on farm land about 135 kilometers northwest from here, near Perth in Lanark County. They found this small- log house already built on their property. It has one large room heated by a fireplace, and a loft above to provide shelter for a large family. This house was taken apart and rebuilt on site at Upper Canada Village. Today, this home is used to demonstrate broom-making, one of many tasks sometimes done to generate additional family income.

La famille Mellraith était une famille d'émigrants écossais qui, en 1846, s'est établie sur une terre agricole à environ 135 kilomètres au nord-ouest d'ici, près de Perth dans le comté de Lanark. Elle a trouvé cette petite maison en bois rond déjà bátie sur sa propriété. La maison a une grande chambre chauffée par une cheminée et un grenier en haut qui pouvait abriter une grosse famille.
