1. Het Badhuis / The Bathhouse Marker
In 1927 stuurt buurtvereniging Ceram een verzoekschrift aan de gemeente tot het oprichten van een badhuis voor de Indische Buurt. Het aantal inwoners is dan gestegen tot 65.000 terwijl slechts 3% van de huizen is uitgerust met een bad of douche. Bewoners van de Indische Buurt zijn voor een wasbeurt toegewezen op het badhuis naast windmolen De Gooijer (nu in gebruik als bierbrouwerij het IJ). Pas in 1939 komt het tot definitieve plannen. In juli 1942, midden in de Tweede Wereldoorlog, wordt het badhuis uiteindelijk geopend door N.S.B.-wethouder J. Smit. Het is daarmee het laatste badhuis dat in Amsterdam wordt voltooid. De eerste week komen er 3.100 mensen een bad nemen. Douchen kost 15 cent. Na 10 minuten bonst een strenge opzichter op de deur van de douchecel. Op de muur staat het volgende gedicht te lezen:
Reinheid is een schoone deugd,Het badhuis blijft in functie tot 1982. Daarna heeft het gebouw onder andere nog dienst gedaan als Hindoe- tempel en kringloopwinkel. Binnen kunt u nog details herkennen van het vroegere badhuis.

The Bathhouse In 1927, neighborhood association Ceram sent a petition to the municipality requesting the establishment of a bathhouse for the Indische Buurt. By then, the number of inhabitants had risen to 65,000, while only 3% of the houses were equipped with a bath or shower. Residents of the Indische Buurt were directed to the bathhouse next to the De Gooijer windmill (now in use as the Het IJ brewery) for a wash. It was not until 1939 that definitive plans were reached. In July 1942, in the middle of the Second World War, the bathhouse was finally opened by NSB alderman J. Smit. It is thus the last bathhouse to be completed in Amsterdam. In the first week, 3,100 people came to take a bath. Showering cost 15 cents. After 10 minutes, a stern supervisor banged on the door of the shower cubicle. The following poem can be read on the wall:
Cleanliness is a beautiful virtue,The bathhouse remained in operation until 1982. After that, the building served as a Hindu temple and a thrift store, among other things. Inside, you can still recognize details of the former bathhouse.
