Inscription. John Gunckel dedicated his life to uplifting Toledo’s underprivileged youth. Through the Newsboys Association, he gave thousands of young boys structure, purpose, and a sense of belonging.

This 26-foot pyramid, built in 1917 from over 30,000 cobblestones and rocks donated by newsboys, schoolchildren, and supporters worldwide, is a lasting tribute to his vision.

Gunckel’s mission to inspire, guide, and protect children continues to echo through the Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo.
