Aubry House
This magnificent Neo-Queen Anne style house was built at the beginning of the century (around 1908) by Dr. Edmond-Stanislas Aubry, mayor of the city of Hull from 1893 to 1895 and from 1905 to 1906. The ground floor and the upper floor were also said to have served as a hospital and maternity home. In 1944, Dr. Lionel Pichette bought the house from Mrs. Aubry, and in 1974 it passed to his son, notary Gérald Pichette. The house has two identical but reversed facades, one facing Aubry Street and the other facing Portage Promenade. The turrets, gables, stained glass windows, pediments, the size and height of the rooms, as well as the use of oak, walnut, and mahogany wood, make the Aubry house one of the most sumptuous residences in Hull. This gem of our built heritage was carefully restored in 1997.
