Inscription.
The names engraved on sandstone represent pioneer families who settled in the Westlake portion of Dover Township in 1820 or earlier, as well as where the families came from, the year of arrival and a description of a family member or the family itself in 1820. Butler Lenox, MA c. 1813 - Jethro & 2nd wife Clarissa headed family of six.

Root Waterbury, CN 1811 - Joseph - only pioneer of Westlake portion of Dover who attended 1st election for township officials in 1812.

Hunter Buffalo, NYc. 1820 - John & Mahitable headed a family of five.

Rice Hawley, MA 1818 - Ansel & Florilla headed a family of six.

Allen Sudbury, VT c. 1818 - Alva & Polly headed family of five.

olden Ashfield, MA 1815 - Rial & Susan and their daughter Lydia.

Foot Lee, MA 1815 - Thomas - township official, headed family of five with wife Dana.

Sperry Camden NY 1814 & 1815 - Amos Sr. - blacksmith & tavern owner, headed family of six. Amos Jr. - township official, family of five.

Atwell Steuben Co., NY 1817 - Jesse - Baptist Deacon, headed family of five.

Johnson Camden, NY 1811 - Leverett - 1st settler in Westlake part of Dover, 1st marriage in Dover (Abigail), 1st state rep. from Dover.

MA c. 1814 - Daniel & Temperance headed family of seven.

Crocker Lee, MA 1811 - Jedediah - Revolutionary War veteran, township official & church founder with wife Sarah & others.

Alexander Canandaigua, NY c. 1819 - Phineas & Keziah headed family of seven.

Hall Lee, MA 1811 - Barnabas, James, and married sisters Martha Bassett & Nancy Ingersoll, & families, & three siblings came later.

Ingersol Lee, MA 1816 & 1819 - David & Nancy and their daughter Sarah.

Stocking Ashfield, MA 1815 - Joseph - township trustee & headed family of nine with wife Jane.

Taylor Lenox, MA c.1814 - Jasher - fought at Bunker Hill, came to Dover at age 61, at least two of his sons were also Dover pioneers.

Cooley Hawley, MA 1818 - Asher - township official, headed family of eight with wife Lydia, four children attended Oberlin in 1830s.

Palmer Lenox or Ashfield, MA c. 1815 - Jesse & Mary headed a family of six.

Smith Lenox, Ashfield & Hawley, MA 1811 - Brothers Jonathan, Sylvanus & probably Abner were Revolutionary War veterans. Jonathan was 1st preacher.

Lilly Ashfield, MA 1815 - Jesse - head of family of eight with wife Hannah. Later, six of his adult siblings & their families came to Dover.

Porter Ashfield, MA 1815 - Nehemiah, Wells & Ebenezer: Pioneer brothers, followed later by brother Leonard who founded Porter Library.

Case Ashfield, MA 1816 - James - Revolutionary War veteran, cooper, had sawmill, d. 1819, family of eight cared for by widow Keziah.
