Monahans in Ward County, Texas — The American South (West South Central)
Pyote Army Air Field Chapel Steeple
From the chapel in Pyote Army Air Field, this steeple stands as a memorial to the combat crews who trained in Pyote. In the rigorous training in the West Texas desert, they each gave of themselves. For some, it cost them their very lives.
The chapel was moved to Monahans in 1960, where for half a century it served as the meeting place for the St. James Episcopal Church. In 2013, the chapel was purchased by the Inman family of Monahans, who converted the building to a residence and donated the steeple as a lasting memorial.
May the blessings of God be upon those who endured the hardships of war in the cause of freedom.
