Battery ‘Cemetery’
Inscription.
Constructed in 1939, the 'Begraafplaats' (Cemetery) battery formed part of the naval base's defenses. The battery comprises gun emplacements for 15 cm L/40 No. 1 guns, along with ammunition magazines and associated crew shelters.
Originally, the emplacements were situated outside the cemetery. Following an expansion, one emplacement ended up within the cemetery grounds; this emplacement remains fully intact. The crew shelter is located near the entrance, with the gun emplacement and ammunition magazine situated at this same spot.
