Sandusky in Erie County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
LakeView House
This building was originally owned by Leonard Guth who operated a grocery on the site until 1880 when the building became Bing's Hotel, named after its first proprietor William Bing. The rear addition was added in 1884 by Henry Scheuffler, the new proprietor and renamed Lakeview House.
In 1908 the building became M.J. Bender Wholesale Grocery, and later the Bender-Woodward Company, wholesale grocers and tea jobbers. On June 28, 1924, a tornado that destroyed much of downtown Sandusky hit this building directly causing roof and window damage, but the storm could not damage the massive limestone walls.
In 1994 the building was converted to residential use by Jeff & Lauralee Krabill along with Bill & Jan Tunnell as the LakeView Condominiums
Erected by Sandusky Main Street Association.
