1. Het Koggehuis / The Koggehuis Marker
Boven de deur het wapen van het waterschap ‘Vier Norder Kogge’ waar overigens geen binding mee heeft bestaan. Gevelsteen met Caritasvoorstelling. Van 1830-1850 woonde hier de zeeschilder P.J. Schotel.
Above the doorway is the coat of arms of the ‘Vier Norder Kogge’ water board, although there was never any actual connection to it. A gable stone depicts the virtue of Charity. The marine painter P.J. Schotel lived here from 1830 to 1850.

THE KOGGEHUIS: B&B MEDEMBLIK
Nieuwstraat 26 is a distinguished residence that was built in 1613 for Albert Pietersz Hauwert. The facade stone with the coat of arms of ‘De Vier Noorder Koggen’ above the entrance refers to Hauwert’s function as chairman of the water authority. The dyke county was divided into four “cogs”, each consisting of a number of villages. Hauwert held the post of chairman from 1610 until his death in 1625. Because the family owned many lands in the Medemblik area and father and son Hauwert were also members of the city council, the name Hauwert is frequently found in the city archive. The ‘Koggehuis’ remained in the possession of the Hauwert family throughout the 17th century. Nowadays, Bed & Breakfast Medemblik is located in the building.
