Ní haon iasc buí é seo
An féidir leat an treoraí gaoithe a bhfuil cruth bradáin air a fheiceáil ar bharr an chloigthí? ‘De Goldie fish’ a thugann muintir Chorcaí air! Nuair a deisíodh i 2002 é, thángthas ar phoill urchair ann. Meastar gur úsáid saighdiúirí a bhí lonnaithe i nDún Uí Choileáin an bradán bocht mar thargaid!
Worth a Long Shot
Known locally as ‘de Goldie fish’, can you see the salmon-shaped weathervane at the top of the belltower? When it was repaired in 2002, bullet holes were discovered. It’s believed the poor salmon was used for target practice by soldiers stationed at Collins Barracks!
Seas cúpla céim i leith do chúil agus féach in airde go bhfeice tú iasc san aer, ar bharr chloigtheach Ealgais Naomh Áine.
Take a few steps back and look up to see a fish out of water, on top of Saint Anne’s Church belltower.

Margadh Ime
Butter Market
Foirgneamh feircíní
Ar feadh cuid mhór de na 1800idí ba i gCorcaigh a bhí an margadh ime ba mhó ar domhan. Áit iontach chuige ba ea Corcaigh mar gheall ar an talamh mhéith sa cheantar. Thugadh feirmeoirí a gcuid ime isteach i mbairillí ar a dtugtaí feircíní.
The butter ‘n’ barrels business
For much of the 1800s Cork had the largest butter market in the world. Cork’s rich agricultural hinterland meant it was ideally situated. Farmers would bring their butter in barrels called ‘firkins’.
Ba chuid de mhargadh an ime i gCorcaigh chomh maith é an foirgneamh cruinn atá in aice láimhe, áit a ndeintí feircíní ime a mheá ar chraein. Tá Dance Cork lonnaithe ann anois agus is ann a fheicfidh tú cuid de na taibheoirí rince is tréithí i gCorcaigh.
The round building nearby was also part of Cork’s butter market where firkins of butter were weighed on a balance known as a crane. It is now home to Dance Cork where some of Cork’s most talented dance artists can be found.
