Inscription. The bandstand was the centerpiece of the main campus in the early years of the Home. This highly ornamental structure was illuminated with gas lamps for evening concerts by the Home Band, which performed nightly during pleasant weather. In the early 1900's, the Home Band was regarded as one of the best government bands in the country. On special occasions, such as visits by dignitaries, the Veterans assembled on the parade ground for a General Review near the bandstand.
