"Dancing Monarchs". Sculpture by Peter Hazel. , Over the decades, Peter Hazel has produced magnificent sculptures of all size, installed all around the country. Peter fell in love with the wonders of the sea and nature growing up in the picturesque community of Half Moon Bay, California. As a child, he attended art shows with his father, Richard Hazel, a well-known oil painter. After leaving Half Moon Bay, Peter lived and raised a family in North Lake Tahoe where he had an illustrious career as a tile and granite contractor for 35 years. Peter's attention to detail and work ethic quickly elevated him to become one of Tahoe's most sought-after tile and granite contractors with many lake-front mansions in his portfolio. While visiting Barcelona in 2008 and viewing Antoni Gaudi's intricate and elaborate architecture, Peter was inspired to begin artistic creations of his own. As a child growing up in an artistic family (his mother was an artist in her own right as well), Peter always had the deep, burning desire to follow in his parents footsteps and fulfill his creative side as an artist. He came home from his European trip and began to allow the world to enjoy his creative, meaningful, one of a kind, artful sculptures., Peter's collection invites you to Interact and admire the beauty of modern art and sculpting using ceramics, colorful glass, steel, and carpentry. He is famous for his massive jellyfish: Bloom, crocdile: Niloticus, and Octopus: Octcvius. Each of these massive, intricate sculptures were installed over the years at Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert of Northern Nevada. These art installations at Burning Man, which draws over 50,000 People annually, gave Peter his introduction to art lovers of the world and jump started his artistic career., The "Dancing Monarch's" sculpture was commissioned by a group of friends of our former First Lady Rosalynn Smith Carter to honor her 95th Birtday on August 18, 2022. Peter chose the site of the sculpture to be in her childhood gardens next to the home where she grew up as a child., Peter's studio and headquarters are currently located at Artech, a creative development center in Northeast Reno near the Truckee River.
