The Reformed Church, or St. Nicholas Church, is the only church in the North Holland village of Broek in Waterland and is also the village's oldest surviving building. The church stands on Kerkplein in the northern part of the village.(Submitted on June 13, 2026.)
St. Nicholas Church was built in the 15th century in the Late Gothic style. The consistory room is attached to the gable end of the northern hall.
History: The Reformed Church (St. Nicholas Church) was built as a hall church with two aisles. The choir terminates in a five-sided apse. Before the Reformation, the church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas, as Broek in Waterland was a fishing village.[1] Nicholas is the patron saint of, among others, mariners. The tower is located at the western end; in its current form, it dates from 1727 and 1780. The nave was repaired between 1585 and 1639 following a fire. The two entrance porches attached to the aisles were added in the 18th century.
