built as a hall church with two aisles. The choir terminates in a five-sided apse. Before the Reformation, the church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas, as Broek in Waterland was a fishing village.[1] Nicholas is the patron saint of, among others, mariners. The tower is located at the western end; in its current form, it dates from 1727 and 1780. The nave was repaired between 1585 and 1639 following a fire. The two entrance porches attached to the aisles were added in the 18th century.
