Elijah Welton served throughout the Revolutionary War even though wounded in the arm and disabled after two years service.

Welton initially served under Col Hooker in the Jesse Curtis Company.

When his captain and many of his company were killed Welton served as captain and received his title.

After Welton was wounded he continued in service as wagoner and private baggage handler for George Washington.

In 1816 at the age of 76 Elijah Welton and his wife Hannah came by ox cart from Goshen, Connecticut to Richfield along with son Stephen and his wife.

Welton is the only officer of the American Revolution buried in Summit County.
