More about this marker. The marker is one of four erected in front of trees as memorials to graduates of Glenbard West High School who died in Vietnam. The school is located across the street.
 
Regarding John F. Scull Jr.. According to newspaper reports, SP4 Scull was 19 years old when he was killed by small arms fire during a search-and-destroy mission on March 21, 1966. His home address was listed as 959 Highland Ave., about a mile north of this memorial, and he joined the Army soon after graduating from Glenbard West. He was survived by his parents and two brothers.
