Inscription.
German:
Hier erklangen u. a.

English:
Alternating between this church, the oldest in Leipzig, and St. Thomas's Church, Johann Sebastian Bach performed his sacred music with the St. Thomas's Church Boys Choir (Thomanerchor). The premier performance of the St. John Passion took place here as did the performance of cantatas and many other works. In ca. 1790, the interior of the church was extensively redesigned in the neo-classical style. The Ladegast organ built in 1862 is the largest church organ in Saxony.
