Bursa Bavarica
⎯⎯⎯
Bavarian Residence Hall
On this site stood the Bursa Bavarica from the mid-15th century until 1834. This timber-framed building, constructed in the North German timber-building tradition with a ground floor and two upper stories, formed the city-facing frontage of the Großes Kolleg (Great College). Teachers and students were housed in this college as early as the 15th century. Thus, the tradition of accommodating professors on university grounds dates back to the university's founding period. In 1834, the Booksellers' Exchange (Buchhändlerbörse) was erected on the same site. It was completely destroyed in 1943 during the Second World War.
Erected 2009 by University of Leipzig.
