Camp Ground Methodist Church
Crenshaw County
During the early years of the Methodist Church, lay preachers journeyed into Alabama and established churches. Church buildings were scarce so people gathered under large trees, where they constructed brush arbor tabernacles, known as "camp grounds." Common in the South, where references to these old camp grounds are often heard, believers would camp and immerse themselves in the Gospel. Established in 1817, Camp Ground Methodist Church still holds true to that tradition, which is a testament to their dedication, faith, and their commitment to preaching and teaching the Gospel. Their motto, "Where everyone is somebody and Jesus Christ is Lord," remains ever faithful.
Erected 2024 by Rev. Dunford Cole, the Congregation of Camp Ground Methodist Church and Alabama Historical Commission.
