Inscription.
The Morrison family made significant contributions to Crow Wing, and to Minnesota history. Brothers William and Allen Morrison were born in Canada and both became well-known Minnesota fur traders. Allen established one of the earliest trading posts in Crow Wing, and became one of the young town's most prominent citizens. In addition to his career as a Crow Wing fur trader, he was at various times, postmaster, hotel keeper, stage coach agent and ferry operator. He also served as a representative in the 1849 Minnesota Territorial Legislature. Allen lived at Crow Wing with his wife Charlotte until her death in 1872. Allen moved to White Earth in 1875, and died there in 1877, at the age of 56. Nearby Morrison County carries the family name, as commemoration of their many contributions to our area's heritage.
