Shade Township near Stoystown in Somerset County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
1st Battalion 109th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania Army National Guard
Inscription.
Honoring those Fallen Warriors killed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom since 9-11-2001 in the Global War on Terrorism. The fallen Warriors of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, 1st BN 109th Infantry Regiment, 55th Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division were the essence of the civilian-soldier. They were home town star athletes, college students, truck mechanics, car detailers and members of their local National Guard units. We honor those who fought and died in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their mission was to neutralize the insurgency and develop the Iraqi security forces within an area of operations and to create stable and secure conditions to allow for self-governance. Those Warriors fallen in the line of duty sacrificed their lives to protect the highest ideals and to keep us safe from enemies near and far. We who honor our Fallen Warriors is a calling to remember those courageous Warriors who have served and given their lives for the causes of freedom, liberty and peace. We should not ponder with sad thoughts the passing of our Fallen Warriors, heroes to us all, but rather remember their legacy. Dedicated to all of the Fallen Warriors and to memorialize the Fallen Warriors of the 109th Infantry Regiment.
