An dieser Stelle stand die Universitätskirche St. Pauli. Errichtet als Kirche des Dominikanerklosters, war sie seit 1543 Eigentum der Universität. Sie überstand alle Kriege unversehrt.
Am 30. Mai 1968 wurde die Universitätskirche gesprengt. Diesen Akt der Willkür verhinderten weder die Stadtverordneten noch die Leipziger Universität. Sie widerstanden nicht dem Druck eines diktatorischen Regimes.
On this site stood St. Paul's University Church. Built as the church of the Dominican monastery, it became the property of the university in 1543. It survived all wars unscathed.
On May 30, 1968, the University Church was demolished by explosives. Neither the city council nor Leipzig University prevented this act of arbitrariness. They did not withstand the pressure of a dictatorial regime.
