Das Gebäude, in dem seit 1711 nachweislich Kaffee ausgeschenkt wird, war über Jahrhunderte Treffpunkt von Schriftstellern, Gelehrten und Musikern wie Telemann, Wagner und Grieg. 1833-1840 versammelte Robert Schumann als Gründer der „Neuen Zeitschrift für Musik“ hier eine Gruppe junger Künstler, die sogenannten Davidsbündler.

This building has served as a coffeehouse since 1711 and the café has long been a meeting spot for writers, academics and musicians such as Telemann, Wagner and Grieg for centuries. From 1833 to 1840 Robert Schumann, who founded the „Neuen Zeitschrift für Musik“ (New Journal for Music) met here with the group of young artists known as Davidsbündler (League of David).
