1. Chilliwack City Hall / Hotel de Ville de Chilliwack Marker
Completed in 1912, this building is the only pre-1930 Canadian municipal hall constructed entirely of reinforced concrete. In size and purpose it is typical of a class of modestly scaled civic structures built in many smaller centres in the early 20th century. Its distinctive classically inspired styling, unusual for such a building in this period, is strongly reflected in the pediment and columns of its imposing portico. Designed by Vancouver architect Thomas Hooper to house the city's administrative, police and courtroom facilities, it also served as an architectural symbol of civic pride.
