O'Brien, James Francis Xavier (1828–1905), nationalist, was born 16 October 1828 in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, second son of Timothy O'Brien (d. 1854), a prosperous merchant; nothing is known of his mother...By 1864, due to his past association with O'Leary as well as the Fenian Brotherhood in America, he had become a frequent contributor to the Irish People. His columns (published under the pen name ‘De L'Abbaye’) were generally considered the most anti-clerical in the paper, although he was, in reality, a devout catholic and no longer so very keen a rebel.(Submitted on June 18, 2026, by Ian Lefkowitz of New York, New York.)
