"Seek On". . , Marvin Hitesman, Sculptor , May 21, 2020, To Honor the Veterans of The Vietnam War (1960-1975), The Vietnam War, which began as a civil war in a small Asian country located over 8,000 miles from America, became a controversial and divisive conflict in United States history that claimed the lives of over 58,000 American soldiers., This war differed from other wars fought during the 20th century because citizens on the home front did not show the same level of support for the war or military as they had during previous wars. There were many protests against the war. Passions ran high on both sides of the debate over the U.S. millitary presence in Vietnam. Tragically protestors took out their anger on the veterans returning home from a brutal war., This statue symbolizes the soldiers that fought in the war and recognizes their service to the United States of America. The sculpture is of a Combat Tracker Team, which were small highly-trained units of five men and a Labrador retriever. These teams were tasked with finding the enemy, reconnaissance, and locating lost or missing friendly personnel. "Seek On" was a command given to the dogs by their handlers to begin tracking.
