1. The Vidette Marker
This building, now the oldest commercial building in Montesang was built expressly for The Vidette in 1911. It is the third home of the newspaper since its founding. Prior to 1911, the offices were located across the street, on the alley side of the old IOOF hall. Before 1888, the paper was located on a second floor above the Marcy Hardware Store near the corner of Marcy et Main. The interior of this building was completely gutted and remodeled in 1974, with the only major exterior changes being the removal of windows along the alley and back of the building. The large, noisy presses that had been in use for many years were retired in 1968. The small, original Vidette press is housed in the Washington State Historical Museum in Tacoma.
