1. United Methodist Church Marker
Prior to the dedication of the United Methodist Church in Canyonville, the Methodist congregation, under the first pastorship of Reverend George H. Brown (1857-58), met in the town's schoohouse. Two building lots were donated to the congregation by businessmen Marks and Wollenberg for construction of a church. These two men had purchased the town site of Canyonville in 1863.
The building was begun in 1868 and dedicated in 1876 during the ministry of Reverend Skidmore. In 1950 Mrs. Charles Barnhart donated $3,000 for the church annex construction, as a memorial to her parents who had helped build the original church.
The church was named to the National Registry of Historic Places on April 5, 1984.
