(English translation:)
In recent years, mulberry trees have once again been planted on Texel, as ornamental gardens and orchards have come back into vogue. Mulberry trees can live to a great age. To answer the question of who commissioned the construction of Kikkertstraat 17, we must go back to 1881, when the farm known as Het Eierlandsche Huis — comprising 170 hectares of land that was partly cultivated and partly wild (dunes and mudflats)—was sold for approximately 20,000 guilders.

The Eierland polder was created in 1835 following the diking of the Buitenveld, a salt marsh situated east of the Zanddijk.

This drift-sand dike was constructed around 1630—using woven brushwood mats—between the dunes of De Koog and the former small island of Eyerland.

This sand dike and the polder situated above the Ruigendijk determined the shape of Texel.
