In diesem Hof wurde 1843 das Leipziger „Conservatorium der Musik“ auf Initiative Mendelssohns eröffnet - die erste Musikhochschule auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Deutschlands. Bedeutende Lehrer der Anfangszeit neben Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy waren Clara und Robert Schumann. Zu den berühmten Studenten der ersten Jahrzehnte zählen Edvard Grieg und Leoš Janáček.
An initiative of Mendelssohn, the Leipzig "Conservatoire of Music" was opened in this courtyard area in 1843 as the first music college within the borders of present-day Germany. Clara and Robert Schumann joined Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy as significant teachers during the early years. The most famous students include Edvard Grieg and Leoš Janáček.
