1. Riverside City Hall Marker
Inscription. A rare and distinctive blend of Brutalism and New Formalism, this post-and-beam civic building features double curtain walls of inner glazing and outer Norman brick clad concrete. Stacked rows of low-arched openings puncture the outer curtain wall, revealing sheltered balconies and creating cutaway corners. Cantilevered concrete beams with modern-stylized Raincross emblems support an elevated podium and breezeway over the Main Street Pedestrian Mall, and freestanding council chambers on a raised plaza overlook the mall clock tower and pools. This exceptional achievement in modern monumentality by local firm Ruhnau, Evans, and Steinmann was dedicated in 1975.

Erected 2025 by Cultural Heritage Board, City of Riverside. (Marker Number 152.)
