1. Notasulga Marker

Inscription.
In 1897 one of the first upright water tanks in the U.S., and possibly the world was built in Notasulga, Alabama. The water tank supplied water for steam engines that traveled through the area. When a steam engine stopped for water, a boiler man would swing a spigot arm out over the train filling it with water. This spigot arm, used at the Notasulga water stop was unearthed by a worker in the area and given to the town. The depot burned in 1958, and the water tank was torn down in 1959 after it became obsolete.
