Steve Williams. . , Since 2009 Steve Williams has been a Major League scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He earned that role through a successful career that began in 1988 as an area scout with the Minnesota Twins. Williams spent seven years with the Twins and was responsible for the signing of Mike Rombley. He then took the Midwest Area scout roll, covering a seven-state region, with the Toronto Blue Jays from 1995-99 and found a gem in the 43rd round, Orlando Hudson. From there he went on to work for the Detroit Tigers as the Midwest Scouting Supervisor from 2000-01 and then their East Coast Supervisor, overseeing a territory from Maine to Puerto Rico, from 2002-06. He joined the Royals organization in 2006 as their Assistant Director of Scouting and helped oversee the signings of key pieces to an eventual World Series championship with guys like Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer and Danny Duffy. Williams has served as the president of the Buck O'Neil Scouting and Coaches Association for the past 16 years. He played on the Clemson baseball team from 1984-87 and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial education. He and his wife Vickie have one daughter, Stacie (16)
