Inscription. The Avalon Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1913 as the Peermont Volunteer Fire Company. They dedicated a fire house on the current site of Avalon Borough Hall on July 4th, 1914. In 1928, the Peermont Volunteer Fire Company changed its name to the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department. There was also an Avalon Volunteer Fire Company established in 1910 that unofficially merged with the Peermont Fire Company sometime prior to 1928. All of the original Articles of Incorporation are on display in the Avalon Fire Station.

This memorial is dedicated to all of the firefighters of Avalon who volunteered to risk their lives and sacrifice their time for the protection of their fellow citizens.
