1. Thomas “Tommy” Thompson Marker
Inscription. The Avalon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the abandoned Seven Mile Beach Ice House at 7th and Ocean Drive. Thompson dragged the first hose line into service on the roof; then he collapsed, stricken with a heart attack. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Sea Isle City where he died at age 41. Thompson was survived by his wife Mary and three siblings.
