Inscription.
On the top of the hill east of the Hollywood Bowl on Mulholland Drive is an excellent lookout point with a great view of Los Angeles and the Bowl. It was built by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and is open from dawn to dusk.

Across the hills on Mount Cahuenga is the Hollywood Sign, a legacy from a 1920s housing development called Hollywoodland. It was erected in 1923 to attract people to buy lots and houses. The letters are 50 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Originally intended to last a year or two, the sign became the popular symbol of Hollywood. In 1949, the Chamber Commerce removed LAND and the sign has read HOLLYWOOD ever since. The sign fell into disrepair by the 1960s, but there were members of the community who fought for its restoration. The sign received Cultural heritage status in 1973 and was reconstructed in 1978.
