3. oldriversidefoundation: Brough- Hammond House, City Landmark #112. featured in the Riverside Landmark Legacy Book. Constructed in 1908, this residence is significant both in its exemplary representation of the Craftsman style of architecture and its association with Harry W. Hammond who was a principal owner of the Riverside Daily Press. The Landmark Plaque is tucked inside the beautiful wrought iron fence and the homes original hitching post is curbside. The front porch beckons for simple pleasures while copper gutters and rain chains remind you of its rich history. Details of this magnificent giant have been restored throughout allowing the beauty of the wood and built-ins to show off the true details they originally adorn. Special touches throughout remind you of its architecture, including a clinker brick fireplace flanked by built-in bookcases, pocket doors that lead to the music room/parlor, and a stained-glass window that gently guides you up the staircase to the 4 large bedrooms. The large main bedroom has dual closets and its own ensuite bathroom that includes access to a balcony through French doors. Updates don't stop with the restoration projects, a newer roof and HVAC system come along with updated plumbing and electrical. All this and tucked in the backyard with alley access is a permitted ADU with a separate gas meter and address. So much more to see with all that downtown has to offer.
