The gallant soldiers who fought in these illustrious units participated, endured, and died in the greatest land battle ever fought and won by the United States Army.
The courage and determination displayed by these soldiers turned back the enemy advance and saved what Winston Churchill later proclaimed to be the most important battle of World War II. They prevailed when confronted by overwhelming enemy forces under the most trying of circumstances.
