Debra and Keith Combs, who have been key in making the memorial come to fruition, thanked the many individuals and organizations that helped make the event possible, including volunteers who served refreshments, CC's Sweet Shop, which donated cakes and cookies, and the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, for assisting with parking and displaying a large American flag over High Street using a ladder truck. In a statement following the event, Debra Combs said the veterans themselves were the true focus of the day. "Most of all, our veterans' presence and sacrifice are what made the day truly special,"
