The Building of a Town
The Oil Boom brought many Oil Companies to Norris City and one of the biggest was Sohio Oil Company, an American Oil producing, transporting, refining and marketing Company starting up in 1870 and lasted until 1911 when it split into Sohio and two other companies. Sohio came to Norris City in 1949. Sohio Purchased crude oil and then piped it to refineries in Ohio. Approximately 67% of all oil and gas in Ohio was produced by Sohio. By 1951 Sohio had 40 employees. Sohio played an important role in the life and well being of our locality.
