Morningstar Mill - The Miller's House
Around 1895, Wilson had the current two storey clapboard house built by a master carpenter and his assistant from Thorold. Wilson purchased the logs from a neighbour and sawed them into lumber at his saw mill. The carpenter was paid $1.50 per day, and his assistant $1.00 per day, the tradesmen were also provided with three meals a day.
The Morningstars' home was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1997. The simple late-Victorian era house features three gables, scalloped clapboard siding, large bay windows and interior window benches, three porches with decorative wood columns and wooden brackets, ball and spindle gingerbread; double hung windows and a large pocket (sliding) door in the parlour's entrance.
Erected by City of St. Catharines.
