After Nennie built Hotel Johnson in Manfred, they moved from this house into the hotel. Other residents of this house were Rasmus and Margaret Jacobson, John P. and Emma Nelson, Arthur Nelson and his first wife Emma and then second wife Hilda, Charles and Grace Hanson, Even and Kjersti Ostrem, and Lars Ostrem. , 2. In 1905, Charles Fjerestad built this house. In 1913, it was sold to Olaf and Caroline (Lena) Anderson. Olaf had various businesses including a livery and dray service. He later sold farm implements and cars. Following Olaf's death in 1931, Caroline continued to live in this house. The garden today is called “Lena's Garden” in honor of her love of flowers. , 3. In 1903, Ole (O.K.) and Mary Melby built their home here. Ole had a farm but was also involved in various businesses in Manfred including a lumberyard and auto dealership. Other residents were Sam Rogness and his first wife Lilly and then second wife Myrtle Mortenson, who taught 26 years at Manfred School. , 4. John Nelson owned the remaining property south to Elevator Street, where he ran several enterprises including a meat market, a feed mill, and a machinery business. In 1916, he and his wife Katherine built a house just south of the Melby house. In 1929, the house was moved to Harvey, where it continues to serve as a home today. , [photo captions] , .
