More about this marker. This marker is the cornerstone from the original building, modified to commemorate the fire and the rebuilding of the church.

Regarding First Baptist Church of Hollywood. The church was founded in 1903. The first sanctuary was constructed in 1907. As the membership increased, more space was needed, so a second sanctuary was built alongside the first on the corner of Selma and Las Palmas Avenues. Both structures burned to the ground on May 3, 1935 due to embers from a neighborhood fire. One year later, in the middle of the great depression, the third, and present, sanctuary was erected.
