Inscription.

Reimer bought the garden "Großbosischer Garten" and, dividing it into several parts, he let them to various private applicants. Within that classical area a main road going from north to south was laid out, which is today’s Nürnberger Straße. At the same time another road was built, the Königstraße (today Goldschmidtstraße), going from east to west. Right in the centre of this interesting axis-crossing the Leipzig painter and bricklayer Johann Heinrich Walther bought some of the plots in Reimers Garten where in the years 1843 and 1844 a large building complex was erected. It consists among others of the Mendelssohn-House and an outhouse with a garden. Unfortunately the precise topography of the garden is not recorded. Using the available sources the reconstruction comes very close to the conditions at Mendelssohn's times. To honour the composer and Gewandhaus-director his preference for lilacs, roses and flowers in general was especially taken into account.
