Excerpt: Army Specialist Manuel Davila, 22 of Gillette was killed when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle was hit by fire. SPC Davila is survived by his wife and daughter. Army Spec. 4 Manuel Davila of Gillette was the only Wyoming resident killed during the first Persian Gulf War. Only hours before the cease fire, friendly fire struck Davila's M-2 Bradley Armored Infantry(Submitted on July 23, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)Vehicle and ended his life. Davila's Bradley was mixed in with a unit of Iraqi tanks when an American M-1A1 Abrams tank accidentally targeted it with a 120mm sabot round. (Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette, Campbell County, Wyoming, USA) Excerpt: Manuel Michael Davilla, 22, was killed in the line of duty Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1991, during Operation Desert Storm. Army Spec. 4 Manuel Davila was the only Wyoming resident killed during the first Persian Gulf War. He was with the B Company of the First Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, part of the US Army's 2nd Armored Division.(Submitted on July 23, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)Mr. Davila was a Gillette native, born Aug. 31, 1968. He attended Eastside Elementary, Twin Spruce Junior High and Campbell County High School, graduating in 1986. He was an altar boy at St. Matthew's Catholic Church and a wrestler during junior high school and in the Army. He also was an avid chess player. After graduating from high school and spending a year at the University of Wyoming, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Carlstedt, Germany. After ending his three-year tour of duty, he decided to re-enlist for three years. On Jan. 6, 1991, he left for Saudi Arabia. He had married Jennifer Scott in Denmark, Dec. 4, 1990. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and the Thunder Basin Centennial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7756.
