1. Devil Anse Hatfield's Homeplace Bridge Marker
This bridge was constructed to access the home built by Capt. William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield. Prior to this home, the Hatfield's lived in a primitive log cabin near the Tug River.
In front of the home was this retractable drawbridge, which crossed over a fast moving, but shallow creek [Island Creek]. It's said there was a greatly lowered earthen barrier on the counterscarp of the creek-bank as a make-shift fortification.
The bridge was later turned from a draw bridge into a cemented access bridge after the feud ended and safe for a permanent passage to the Hatfield homeplace.
