1. Fred & Florence Hicks Homestead Marker
Fred Grant Hicks, born in Ohio, emigrated to Wyoming in 1908 to work for the Burlington Railroad. The Hicks homestead was north of Burlington Lake. He was the roundhouse foreman for twelve years. In 1932 he and his wife Florence purchased the Brooks hardware store which he operated until 1937. He spent his last years at the Wyoming Soldiers and Sailors home in Buffalo, Wyoming where he died in 1955. Florence died in Buffalo, Wyoming in 1950. Fred's great grandchildren include former Gillette Mayor Tom Murphy, a 6th generation Wyoming native.
