1. Watson House Marker

Inscription. This house was the second St. Augustine residence of British carpenter William Watson. It was reconstructed in 1968 using British carpentry techniques. Some material used to reconstruct the house came from a home in Lynn, Massachusetts, that was dismantled and brought to St. Augustine. It was a home from the same period and built in the same style.

Watson was brought to Florida in 1767 by Andrew Turnbull as a builder of Turnbull's New Smyrna plantation structures. Watson later became an active carpenter-builder in St. Augustine, where he purchased and renovated old buildings.

After the return of the Spanish to St. Augustine in 1784. Watson returned to England. His house was given to Father Pedro Camps and is thought to have burned in 1887.

Reconstructed by the State of Florida in 1968
