1. Main Street in the 1940's Marker
As viewed from in front of the Hotel Kinney, Cuba's Main Street was the place to be. The Cuba Baking Co. was a popular stop for school children. Then, going east, lies the Modern Beauty Salon, the Cuba Theater, owned by the Tantillo family, The Elite Restaurant, and Quality Meat Market in the Gross Building. Among the other businesses of the 40's era, lining this side of Main Street were Jay Tees Restaurant, Campbell's Barber Shop, Bartlett Hardware, The Olympia Restaurant, Danahy Faxon Groceries, Wheeler's Department Store, Waldock's Drug Store, Cuba Candy Kitchen, Hedden's Red & White Store, Cuba liquor Store, St. James Hotel and Schryver's Market.
Among the well-known personalities depicted in this mural are Shine Seeley and Margaret H. Rinker, Charles and Cecil Arzberger and Nico van Zwanenberg as a young boy. The viewer is free to assign names to the soldier returning home from WWII, being greeted by his girlfriend and parents, and other individuals along the busy 1940's street as depicted in 2018 by artists Carol Shaffer and Connie Doyle.
